Overview

Wazir Agha Library (WAL) is a multidisciplinary library for the community of University of Sargodha. It is serving as an academic and research hub for collaborative learning, discovery and innovation. WAL offers outstanding information resources and services in support to university academic, information and research needs of the faculty, staff and students. The library staff has also been striving to support its users to solve the socio-economic and political issues prevailing these days. WAL is equipped with all required sources of information both in hard and digital formats. In addition to the facilities, our library is committed to accomplish the most pivotal role in information acquisition, organization, retrieval, access and use. The managers have always been focusing on enhancing the quality of information system and services. Students, faculty, researchers and other stakeholders are encouraged, motivated and facilitated to take maximum benefit of the library. The library also has five seminar libraries as follows:

Seminar Libraries

Historical Background

WAL, initially, was a library of Government College Sargodha situated at Jinnah block. It was renamed as central library in 2002 when Government College, Sargodha got the charter of the university. The Central Library was shifted to a purpose-built four-story building having a covering area of 37500 square feet in 2007. In 2019, it was named after Wazir Agha Khan, the famous Urdu poet and writer. The renovation and remodeling of Wazir Agha Library was initiated and completed in 2023. The renovation and remodeling project led by Dr. Muhammad Asif Naveed with an additional charge of Chief Librarian who is actually an Associate Professor of Information Management. In this process, the following sections were developed along with renovation of the existing zones.

  1. Learning Zone with (150 Users)
  2. Faculty Lounge with a Discussion room for meetings of collaborative and interdisciplinary research groups (60 persons)
  3. Research Commons (75 users): A designated place for research students (MPhil/PhD) which can be turned into a seminar room anytime when needed. It also has two discussion rooms for collaborative learning and research.
  4. Digital Commons (40 users): A state-of-the-art digital common was upgraded with a large LED screen and latest computers to maximize digital information resources
  5. Five Discussion rooms for BS/MA student for collaborative learning and innovation. Each discussion room is equipped with a 42-inch LED having Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
  6. The existing furniture (reading chairs, reading tables, and book shelves, etc.) and reading halls were renovating along with addition of new furniture such sofa, chair, etc.
  7. Installation of Disaster Management System

The total cost for the renovation and remodeling of Wazir Agha Library was about 25 million, generated by the university from its own sources. It has a capacity for 700 users simultaneously. Wazir Agha Library was inaugurated by the Governor of Punjab, Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman, on Thursday, December 21, 2023
